When you accidently leave your cup of coffee on the desk and forget about it, disaster can happen! When you spill the coffee into your prized laptop or desktop computer or workstation, all hell can break loose.
But what is the best thing to do when this happens? Well with a desktop computer, you would throw the keyboard away and go to your local computer store and purchase a replacement, unless of course, it is worth a few hundred dollars and is a wireless keyboard. If this is the case, you take the batteries out of the wireless keyboard and not return them until it has been assessed by an electronic repair technician. But when it is a laptop, what to do I hear you say? Same applies as with the batteries in a desktop type wireless keyboard. Take the laptop out from the battery and do not return it under any circumstances until your laptop has been assessed by an electronic or computer technician. Qualified if at all possible because there are a lot of dodgy repairers out there not qualified who watch you tube videos to repair things. These are referred to as "jack of all trades, but master of none!" repairers. Always ask the repairing business what their technicians qualifications are before proceeding to use that company.
So, your battery is out of your keyboard and laptop devices.. woohoo! Thats just so productive! I need my computer to work, I need my computer to live! So dont be tempted to return the batteries or try charging your device. When electronics are wet and an electrical current passes through from a battery, acidic corrosion forms across the components of the circuit board of the device, and oxidization occurs.
If no battery is installed, it limits this kind of damage occuring because this oxidization and corrosion can burn tracks out on the printed circuit board, causing fatal device issues.
Have a qualified repair technician look at your liquid damaged keyboard or laptop. If you're confident the liquid damage was only light on the laptop keyboard, sometimes you can source replacement keyboards from online auction sites, and have a technician fit it for you, at a much reduced price because you have provided the replacement parts yourself.
Most of all though dont panic! with smaller devices such as mobile phones, you can put these in a bag of rice until a repair technician can assess them. This draws the liquid out of the device and into the rice. This is not practical with larger devices such as laptops and wireless desktop computer keyboards so get them in for repair as soon as possible and remember, take that battery out! and leave it out! Dont apply the charger either is my final advice!
